Overview
Expert Notes allows you to add your own personal research notes directly to expert profiles in ExpertInsight. You can capture observations, record context, and keep track of your insights — all attached to the expert they relate to.
How to Use Expert Notes
Open any expert profile in ExpertInsight
Click on the Notes canvas to open a rich-text editor for that expert
Write your notes — you can use formatting such as headings, bullet lists, numbered lists and checkboxes
Your notes are saved automatically — when you return to the same expert, your notes will be there
Each expert has its own canvas. Your notes are personal to you and are not visible to other users in your workspace.
What Can I Use Notes For?
Expert Notes is designed for personal research notes about the expert. Common uses include:
Recording why an expert was added to a project
Noting outreach history or contact context
Capturing observations from publications, presentations, or conferences
Keeping track of next steps or follow-up actions related to a specific expert
Formatting
The notes canvas supports rich-text editing, any formatting supported by markdown and including UI assistance for:
Headings — organise your notes into sections
Bullet and numbered lists — structure key points
Checkboxes — track tasks or follow-ups
The canvas content is rich-text, which means you can copy and paste your notes directly into any rich-text editor — including CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Veeva, or HubSpot — and the formatting will be preserved.
Exporting Notes
When you export expert data from ExpertInsight, your notes are included in a dedicated "Notes" sheet in the Excel export. The format is designed to be compatible with CRM systems for easy import.
Privacy and Visibility
Your notes are personal. Only you can see the notes you create. Other users in your workspace cannot view your private canvas content.
Your organisation may request access. Notes may be accessible to your organisation upon request — for example, as part of offboarding or compliance processes.
Monocl may review content. Monocl reserves the right to review notes to ensure they comply with the Permitted Use Terms (see below).
Permitted Use
Expert Notes is intended for personal research notes about the applicable expert. You must not include:
Personal data about individuals other than the expert to which the notes directly relate
Confidential business information or any information of a proprietary, confidential, or sensitive nature
Prohibited content — including anything that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, or that infringes third-party intellectual property or proprietary rights
Monocl reserves the right to review note content and remove any information that does not comply with these terms. The full Permitted Use Terms are included in your organisation's agreement.
Opting Out
If your organisation does not wish to use Expert Notes, the feature can be disabled at the workspace level. Contact your Customer Success Manager to request opt-out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can other users see my notes? No. Your private canvas notes are visible only to you. Other users in your workspace — including administrators — cannot see your notes within the product.
Is there one note per expert? Yes — each user has one canvas per expert. You can organise it however you like using headings, sections, and collapsible blocks.
Are my notes saved automatically? Yes. Notes are saved as you write. You do not need to manually save.
Can I export my notes? Yes. Notes are included in the expert data export as a dedicated "Notes" sheet in Excel format.
Can I copy notes into my CRM? Yes. The rich-text formatting is preserved when you copy and paste from the canvas, so you can paste directly into Salesforce, Veeva, HubSpot, or any other rich-text editor.
Can I add notes to projects? Not currently. Notes are available on individual expert profiles. Project notes are under consideration for a future release.
Can I search across all my notes? Not currently. Notes are accessed from the individual expert profile. A centralised notes management view is under consideration for a future release.
Is there an additional cost? No. Expert Notes is included in your existing ExpertInsight access.
